Sarah Holcombe, will spill passion in Dido and Aeneas

Sarah Holcombe, the protagonist of "Dido and Aeneas", invites the Mazatlan public to enjoy the romance and tragedy of this emotional opera presented by the Mazatlan Cultural Festival 2017 at the Angela Peralta Theater this Friday, the 8th and Saturday, the 9th of December at 8 pm.

With this great production of the Instituto de Cultura de Mazatlan, where live music, choirs, dance and talented soloists will revive a legendary love, the company Delfos danza contemporánea will celebrate 25 years on the stages of the world.

The program will begin with the three movements "Andante", "Allegro" and "Vivace" from the Baroque Concert by Johann Sebastian Bach; After the intermission the audience will enjoy one of the most notable operas of the Baroque era, by English composer Henry Purcell.

Sarah Holcombe will personify Dido, the founder and first Queen of Carthage, faced with the tragedy of falling in love and not being reciprocated by Prince Aeneas.

"Dido and Aeneas" is a very beautiful adaptation, for me it is a symbolic opera, 9 years ago I played the secondary role of the messenger spirit that tells "Aeneas" that he should undertake the journey and detonate the most dramatic part of the work.

Sarah Holcombe is currently a more mature woman, prepared with some of the best masters of the national bel canto and with more experience in the artistic and personal level, which allows her to flow naturally in a role that demands great commitment to be able to transmit to the public the passion and suffering of the character.

In this opera there are very beautiful arias like the final scene of El lamento de Dido, which culminates with the protagonist´s suicide, but the main attraction is provided by the work of Delfos contemporary dance, says the Mazatlecan mezzo-soprano.

"Working with Delfos is really nice, it is a very enriching experience. They (the dancers) make the opera flow in every scene. It´s a lot of movement and a lot of dance and surely people will like it. "

Finally, Sarah Holcombe highlighted the work carried out by the Instituto de cultura de Mazatlan to expand the operatic panorama of the port, since only in the last semester of this year, has produced and presented four great operas, which undoubtedly widens the opportunities for the projection of the Mazatlan artists.

The presentation of "Dido and Aeneas" will have music by the Camerata Mazatlán, the participation of the Guillermo Sarabia Choir and the dance performance of contemporary dance Delphi. Tickets $100, 150, 200, 250 and 300 pesos, available at the box office of the Angela Peralta Theater and La Gran Plaza. Further information at 982-4446 x103.
