El ballet “El Cascanueces” es una de las historias del siglo XVIII cuya magia cobra vida en esta temporada navideña con esta espléndida producción llevada a escena por el Instituto de Cultura de Mazatlán.
Los factores que influyeron para vivir esta fantástica velada fueron la dirección de la maestra Zoila Fernández y Guillermo Carrillo, los 112 alumnos de la Escuela Municipal de Ballet Clásico, la música de la talentosa Camerata Mazatlán bajo la batuta del maestro Percival Álvarez y las adorables voces del Coro Infantil de la Escuela de Música de la directora Mariela Angulo.
Este año se decidió renovar la espectacular escenografía creada por Victor M. Carrizalez; y el llamativo vestuario fue confeccionado en el Taller del Instituto de Cultura; y Ángel Moreno y Héctor Zambrano, crearon la utilería estrenada esta noche.
Se unió al elenco la Compañía de Danza de Mazatlán, entre cuyos integrantes destacan artistas graduados de las más importantes escuelas de ballet de México y Cuba y bailarinas egresadas del nivel técnico medio de la Escuela Municipal de Ballet de Mazatlán.
La producción original de dos actos se remonta a San Petersburgo en 1892, surgió a partir de la idea de Ivan Vzevolozhsky, director del Teatro Mariinsky; los coreógrafos Marius Petipa y Lev Ivanov; y el compositor Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, quienes adaptaron la historia de E.T.A Hoffman para transformarlo en un ballet que se ha vuelto una tradición decembrina en los grandes teatros del mundo.
La emblemática composición que durante cien años ha sido ejecutada, Op. 71: Miniature Overture, marcó el inicio del espectáculo para dar paso a la apertura del telón.
En el primer acto, la historia se desarrolla en la fiesta de las vísperas navideñas de la familia Stahlbaum, mientras los niños juegan y los adultos socializan en el salón, el misterioso Mago Drosselmeyer (Alejandro Izquierdo) llega para entregar regalos a sus ahijados Clarita (Sandra Fernández) y Fritz; Clarita queda encantada con su nuevo cascanueces de madera, pero esa felicidad dura poco cuando las niñas invitadas lo rompen. Con sus poderes el mago logra repararlo y la alegría de la pequeña regresa, los invitados se retiran y los niños van a la cama.
La historia continúa con Clarita, que sin poder contener su emoción regresa al salón para visitar a su nuevo cascanueces, pero no esperó encontrarse reducida al tamaño del mismo y los soldados de juguete.
Docenas de ratones salen de su escondite y atacan a todos los que se encuentran en la sala, el cascanueces se enfrenta a ellos y a su malvado rey (Erick Iván González) en un duelo de espadas. Como resultado por vencerlos y en agradecimiento por su ayuda, el cascanueces conduce a Clarita hacia una aventura a través del mundo de los caramelos y pasan por una ráfaga de copos de nieve que bailan al entrar en el mágico reino.
En el segundo acto los ciudadanos del reino de los caramelos entretienen a Clara y al nuevo príncipe con exóticos productos de todo el mundo, café de Arabia, chocolate de España, té de China, bastones de caramelo, una danza rusa y la inmensa coreografía de Mamá Ginger; hasta las flores tomaron vida y comenzaron el vals que toca los corazones de todos los presentes.
Finalmente, la reina del reino encantado, el Hada del Azúcar (Alina Rodríguez), baila con el príncipe (Carlos Fernández) para terminar esta extraordinaria historia con un dulce final que el público agradeció con fuertes aplausos.

Toys, sweet dancers, dreams and love come alive in the ballet "The Nutcracker"
Snowflakes, a duel of swords, toys that dance and a magical journey through new worlds, all this and more, took place on the stage of the Angela Peralta Theater during the ballet "The Nutcracker", which with a spectacular montage was presented as part of the Mazatlan Cultural Festival 2017.
The ballet "The Nutcracker" is one of the stories of the eighteenth century whose magic comes alive in this Christmas season with this splendid production brought to the stage by the Instituto de Cultura de Mazatlan.
The factors that influenced this fantastic evening were the direction of maestros Zoila Fernandez and Guillermo Carrillo, the 112 students of the Municipal School of Classical Ballet, the music of the talented Camerata Mazatlan under the baton of maestro Percival Álvarez and the adorable voices of the Children´s Choir of the School of Music directed by Mariela Angulo.
This year it was decided to renew the spectacular set created by Victor M. Carrizalez; and the striking costumes were made in the Workshop of the Instituto de Cultura; and Ángel Moreno and Héctor Zambrano created the props which premiered this year.
The Mazatlan Dance Company joined the cast, whose members include graduated artists from the most important ballet schools in Mexico and Cuba and dancers graduated from the middle technical level of the Municipal School of Ballet of Mazatlan.

In the first act, the story unfolds in the Christmas Eve party of the Stahlbaum family, while the children play and the adults socialize in the living room, the mysterious Mage Drosselmeyer (Alejandro Izquierdo) arrives to deliver gifts to his godchildren Clarita ( Sandra Fernández) and Fritz; Clarita is delighted with her new wooden nutcracker, but that happiness is short when invited girls break it. With his powers the magician manages to repair it and the joy of the little girl returns, the guests retire and the children go to bed.
The story continues with Clarita, who, unable to contain her excitement, returns to the living room to visit her new nutcracker, but did not expect to be reduced to the size of her and the toy soldiers.
Dozens of mice come out of hiding and attack all those in the room, the nutcracker confronts them and their evil king (Erick Ivan Gonzalez) in a duel of swords. As a result of overcoming them and in gratitude for their help, the nutcracker leads Clarita on an adventure through the world of sweets and they go through a flurry of snowflakes that dance as they enter the magical kingdom.
In the second act, the citizens of the caramel kingdom entertain Clara and the new prince with exotic products from around the world, coffee from Arabia, chocolate from Spain, tea from China, candy canes, a Russian dance and the immense choreography of Mama Ginger; even the flowers come to life and began the waltz that touches the hearts of all present.
Finally, the queen of the enchanted kingdom, the Sugar Fairy (Alina Rodríguez), dances with the Prince (Carlos Fernández) to finish this extraordinary story with a sweet ending that the audience loudly applauded.
